1 pound of butter
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
6 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
The tricky things with cutout is that you prep the dough in advance. After combining all of the ingredients with a mixer, put it right into the fridge (or a freezer if you’re crunched on time)!
The colder the dough, the less the cookies spread. This is ideal because of the shapes you cut your cookies into!
Depending on your oven, you want to cook these sugar babies for about 7-10 minutes. You want to take these off before they’re even brown around the edges because they taste best hot out of the oven, buttery and almost raw. Also, try to bake cookies of similar sizes per pan.
In my 23 years, we’ve been making these cookies for as long as I can remember. Sometimes we frost them, sometimes we dip them in chocolate, sometimes we eat them straight plain because these things are so damn good. This year, we put on sprinkles before baking, which made the sparkly, sugary goodness melt right into the cookies.
